Owen Sound's Caskenette helps Mercy University to fifth straight title

Owen Sound’s Brody Caskenette helped his Mercy University men’s lacrosse team win a fifth straight East Coast Conference lacrosse championship Saturday afternoon at Mercy Field in Dobbs Ferry, New York.

Caskenette scored four goals and added a helper in the contest as the Mavericks topped Frostburg State University 18-5.

Caskenette, a senior at Mercy studying business, has recorded 39 goals and 16 assists for the Mavericks this season.

He has 63 goals and 30 assists in his college career.

Caskenette won a Minto Cup — Canada’s national junior A lacrosse championship — with the Orangeville Northmen in 2019 alongside his older brother Jordan and fellow Owen Sound Minor Lacrosse graduates Mike Fiegehen and Logan Swanton.

Caskenette played with the Owen Sound North Stars junior B program between 2017 and 2019 recording 122 points over 43 games in three seasons.

He was also a three-time MVP with the Owen Sound District Wolves lacrosse team.

Caskenette and the Mavericks will now enter the NCAA Division II Men’s Lacrosse Championship tournament as the No. 2 seed in the North Region and host the winner of St. Anselm (3) and Bentley (6) on May 12 at Mercy field.
